Contributing is one of our core values at Castaway Customs. We’re very fortunate to be based out of East Central Florida and grew up surrounded by the Indian River Lagoon and Banana River. We all enjoy utilizing the resource; whether we’re out on the water fishing or just cruising with the family enjoying the local sandbars and islands. We’re just as passionate about finding ways to give back and make it a better place so it can be enjoyed by future generations.
With the help from Keep Brevard Beautiful and Captains for Clean Water, we were able to host an event for our local employees, families, and friends. We all met at Kelly Park located in Merritt Island right off SR 528. The Beachline Expressway is a popular hangout during the weekend as it crosses over both river systems and provides a place to fish and relax at the water’s edge. Unfortunately, many who visit don’t leave the area better than they found it and leave much of their trash and garbage behind.
In just a few short hours our team was able to collect nearly 50 bags of trash and fill up 2 truck beds with garbage and debris. We did the clean-up on a Saturday morning as the visitors were beginning to fill in and many were taking notice. Some even asked where they could purchase the trash pickers we were using provided by KBB. Hopefully connecting with a few will inspire others to do their part and help to keep the area clean.
This was the first of many events to come and we will begin to branch out to other areas of the state where we have service locations. Keep an eye out for local events in your area. We would love to continue to grow the program, meet new people, and get others involved!
