Ranger boats have been around a long time and made there name in the bass boat market, but have made a push in the saltwater market in the past decade or so. The Ranger Cayman, while not the most popular model in their saltwater lineup provides great versatility and stability. This customer has had the boat for a while and was looking to dress up the boat a little as well as add the comfort and traction provided by SeaDek. One of the nice things about adding custom SeaDek to your boat is you can change the look and also the feel of your boat. There are a wide variety of color combinations and this customer decided to go with a camel over black in 6mm. SeaDek has recently added some new colors to their color pallet and the camel color is one of the new ones. This was the first job that I have done with the camel and it came out very nicely. While not for everyone the camel color adds a nice subtle look and goes well with popular boat colors like fighting lady yellow. If you are interested in adding custom SeaDek to your Ranger or any skiff you can contact tyler@castawaycustoms.com.

It seems in these economic times many people are choosing to buy used boats instead of new boats. The only problem with buying used is sometimes these boats need a little TLC. A recent customer bought a 27′ Contender and decided he was going to fix her up. The non-skid had essentially worn off on the entire cockpit of the boat so he gave me a call. SeaDek provides great traction and is an excellent option instead of reapplying new non-skid. Not only do you not have to worry about slipping, but it also makes a long day on the water much more comfortable and enjoyable due to the cushion of the SeaDek. As you can see from the before and after pictures, the boat looks like a new boat once the installation was finished up. If you would like to deck out your Contender, or any boat for that matter feel free to contact me at 321-537-2039 or email me at tyler@castawaycustoms.com.

While teak adds a very classic look to a boat, there are major downsides. One of the major issues is the cost. Teak is a very expensive wood and installing teak on a boat is very labor intensive therefore will set you back a good amount. The other downside to real teak is the amount of time and labor it takes to keep it looking good. It can be a full time job keeping it oiled up. While teak use to be one of your only options now there are many different faux teak options. The nice thing about faux teak is it gives you the look of teak without the maintenance and most of all without breaking the bank. There are different faux teak options out there, but many of them will still cost you around $50 per square foot installed, about half of the cost of real teak. SeaDek’s faux teak runs about half of the cost of other faux teak materials while still provide the comfort, traction, and durability that SeaDek is known for. Whether you are looking to cover the cockpit of a sportfishing boat or the interior cabin on a cabin cruiser, the faux teak SeaDek is a great option from every standpoint. Castaway Customs specializes in custom SeaDek applications and can design and install custom faux teak in your boat. Take a look at some of my recent work and feel free to contact me at tyler@castawaycustoms.com if you have any questions or for a price quote.

SeaDek comes in a varitey of different thicknesses. This is nice because it allows you to custom tailor a pad to your needs and application. Our 3mm foam is the thinnest sheets avaliable. If you are looking only for traction a 3mm pad may suit your needs. The 3mm works great for knife cutting do-it yourself projects. It is to thin to be routed on our CNC machine for custom applications so a knife cut edge is the only option. The next step up in thickness is our 5mm sheets. The 5mm sheets are kind of a standard and what have been around since the beginning. Having the extra thickness provides not only traction, but added comfort as well. Anything that is 5mm or thicker can be routed on the CNC machines giving the pad a nice beveled edge and adding a more finished look to any project. The next step up is our 10mm sheets. Once you move up to a 10mm pad or thicker you are most likely looking at a thickness for something like a helm pad which provides extra cushioning. The great thing about SeaDek is all of these different thicknesses can be laminated together to give you even more options in thickness. Laminating two different colors of foam together also allow the contrast needed to create logos in the pads while giving the pad a two tone border which really sets it off. For example you can laminate a 3mm piece of Storm Gray foam over 3mm Midnight Black to give you a 6mm piece of foam. Take a look at the picture below to see what a nice look 6mm foam can provide.

3mm Storm Gray over 3mm Black
For a helm pad for a larger center console boat, we use 13mm or 15mm. I try to us a combination of 3mm foam as the top layer on any pads with logos so the routed logos stay fairly shallow in depth. Stock SeaDek helm pads consist of a 15mm foam. Take a look at the picture below to see 5mm White laminated over 10mm Storm Gray in a stock helm pad.

No matter what type of boat you have or the application of boating you do, having different thicknesses allows us to create products that will suit your needs. Castaway Customs specializes in custom products so if you have any questions or would like to purchase any custom or stock SeaDek products please contact me at tyler@castawaycustoms.com or feel free to give me a call at 321-537-2039.
Coolers are a must have on any boat; whether you are using it as a fish box, to keep some drinks cold, or just as dry storage. Coolers are very versatile and can be used for many other applications on boats. Coolers can also be used as seating, casting platforms, and steps. SeaDek cooler pads are great addition to any cooler because they make the cooler more versatile. Many cooler tops are fairly slick surfaces so standing or using them as a step may be dangerous, adding SeaDek to the top provides traction needed. Coolers also tend to slide around while running in a boat so have pads to stick to bottom of the coolers to lessen the chances of movement. As a seat, most coolers tops are not the most comfortable thing to sit on so sticking a piece of SeaDek to the top adds comfort. We can make custom cooler pads in different thicknesses to provide extra cushion also. Like all of the Castaway Customs products you can add custom logos or designs to make it your own. If you purchase a Yeti Cooler from us we also provide a free 5mm or 6mm cooler top pad. For an additional charge you can choose a thicker pad, or add the logo of your choice. If you have any questions feels free to contact me at tyler@castawaycustoms or call me at 321-537-2039.
