Tricked out Maverick HPX-V Skiff

This project was for a customer who runs McCall Anglers, an outfitter and fly shop in Idaho, and spends his Spring chasing permit and tarpon down in the Florida Keys.  It was a joint project with Shallow Water Customs down in South Florida.  The guys at Shallow Water Customs run a great rigging and repair shop and have been installing SeaDek for years.  The boat had a complete makeover from new gelcoat and rigging to a full SeaDek kit.  This HPX-V spends it time primarily down in Key West and will surely stand out among the other Mavericks in the Lower Keys.  This customer decided to go with Caribbean blue over black.  The black makes the edges and the custom logos really pop nicely.  We also replaced the old carpet on the undergunnels.  This has become a very popular option the Maverick boats because carpet and saltwater don’t tend to mix very well.  If you need any custom SeaDek work done to your skiff you can contact Castaway Customs at tyler@castawaycustoms.com.

Castaway Customs decks out Maverick Master Angler

While not as popular as some of the newer models built by Maverick Boat Company, the Master Angler line of boats has a serious following and has proven itself for years on the water.  While the 18 Master Angler isn’t the most shallow drafting boat, it will still get plenty skinny and also provides great storage, stability, and ride.  This particular boat is a 1996 model and is in great shape for the age.  The owner takes his wife and kids on the boat frequently so he wanted something that would make it more comfortable when lounging around on the decks.  Standard thickness for SeaDek on most decks and floors is either a 5mm single color or a 6mm two tone.  We decide to step it up just a little and go with an 8mm foam which is a combination of 5mm black with 3mm mica on top.  This color combination contrasted very nicely with the color of the boat and the black underlay allowed us to add some ruler sticks on the gunnels to measure fish.  The little extra thickness provided by the 8mm will make his wife and kids more comfortable while on the boat.  If you are looking to add any custom SeaDek to your Maverick or any other brand skiff contact Castaway Customs at tyler@castawaycustoms.com.

Custom SeaDek on Older Lake and Bay

Recently completed a job for a customer who has a 1994 Lake and Bay.  The non-skid had been repainted once before, but it was starting to wear through in several different places and show its age.  While searching out the different options for marine traction and non-skid he stumbled across SeaDekCustom SeaDek was not only the option he was looking for, but also the solution to other problems.  Over time, boats that are used and fished hard like many of the Lake and Bay tend to show some age and small spider cracks are bound to happen no matter what brand or build of boat you have.  While you don’t want to cover over any structural issues, using SeaDek to cover small spider cracks seals them up and hides them giving the boat a nice new look.  This particular customer also fishes many tournaments and spends long days on the water.  The anti fatigue characteristics and cushion provided by adding SeaDek to your boat can really make those long days tournament fishing or just fun fishing more enjoyable.  We decide to go with a single color 5mm foam for this particular boat.  The storm gray is one of the more popular colors because it is fairly neutral ,so it goes well with most boats and being a little darker tends to hide dirt well.  One of the most frequent questions I get asked, and one asked by this particular customer was if the SeaDek gets hot.  Since SeaDek is a closed cell foam and fairly then it doesn’t retain heat.  What this means is when you first step on the pads if they have been sitting out baking in the sun you will notice they are warm, but not particularly warmer than any other deck and once you stand there for a second or two it disperses heat very quickly.  If you are interested in adding custom SeaDek to your skiff, bay boat, or offshore center console you can contact Castaway Customs at tyler@castawaycustoms.com.

Sea Chaser 200 FS with Custom SeaDek

On a recent trip down to Southwest Florida I met up with Capt. Glen Brownlee to deck out his personal flats boat as well as the fire departments boat he works on.  Glen’s personal boat he runs trips out of is a Sea Chaser 200 FS.  This flats skiff provides a nice stable platform to fish off of.  The boat had a molded non skid pattern on the deck that we used as the pattern to scan.  We decided to go with 6mm two tone SeaDek in the combination of Beach Sand over Black which added a very nice contrast to the boat and really set it off.  Many customers choose SeaDek as an option to cover up spider cracks or areas of the boat where the non skid patterns has worn off.  Everything on this particular boat looked good, but the combination of comfort, traction, and looks added by the custom SeaDek made Glen decide to pull the trigger and fully deck out the boat.  SeaDek added a very nice face lift to the boat and made it look brand new.  We also decided to throw in a few custom logos to really customize the job.  We added a snook logo to the front deck and also added a ruler stick on each gunnel so Glen can measure fish easily.  If you need to give your boat a face lift, no matter how big or small, you can contact Castaway Customs at tyler@castawaycustoms.com.

Custom SeaDek for 17 Tunnel Pathfinder

I recently did some work for Capt. Peter Babb who guides out of the 10,000 Islands and Everglades National Park.  Peter runs this 17T Pathfinder for low water and sight fishing.  Although Maverick Boat Company doesn’t build this particular flats boat anymore, they have a cult following by those who fish out of them.  Peter also runs a Maverick 21 Master Angler.  The boat had been used and fished hard so it was starting to show some signs of aging and needed a little face lift.  Castaway Customs deals with many customers who are looking to take an old boat and make it look new again.  SeaDek is a great product to not only enhance the look of your boat, but also add comfort and traction.  For standard two tone decks we mostly use 6mm foam, but we were looking to get a little extra comfort so we stepped it up and went with an 8mm two tone of Cool Gray over Black.  This color combination is a favorite among customers and really pops nicely with the black border.  The customer decided to cover the areas of the boat that get the most traffic and we also added the undergunnel pads for reel protection and threw in the Pathfinder Tunnel logo to give it that custom touch.  If you need any custom SeaDek work done to your 17T Pathfinder or any of the Maverick Boat Company products feel free to contact me at tyler@castawaycustoms.com.

Custom SeaDek for 17 Mitzi Skiff

I got a call from a customer up in South Carolina who was looking to convert a center console Mitzi Skiff into a side console.  While I get many customers who ask me to do all sorts of stuff there are things I will and also wont attempt.  I figured this one was better left for the guys over at Orange County Boatworks.  After they did the conversion there was no better way to cover up the evidence of the old center console than to lay down a SeaDek floor kit, after the holes were properly repaired of course.  We he decided to do a little more than just the floor and opted to do the entire boat.  Many customer like to add custom logos to the decking and this customer decided to keep it simple and clean by just adding Mitzi to the undergunnel pads.  Since removing the center console opened up a ton of space in the flats boat he also purchased a 65 Qt Yeti Tundra cooler from me to use as a coffin box and extra seating.  He came down to pick up his skiff and was very pleased with both the work performed by Orange County Boatworks as well as the work by Castaway Customs.  If you need any custom SeaDek, Yeti Coolers, or anything to trick out your skiff get in contact with me and if I can’t do it myself I can at least point you in the right direction.  You can reach me by phone at 321-537-2039 or by email at tyler@castawaycustoms.com.

16′ Silver King Signature Custom SeaDek

Growing up fishing and living in East Central Florida you don’t see to many Silver King boats running around.  If you head over to the Florida’s Nature Coast you see them everywhere.  The boat was designed and made to fish for none other than the tarpon.  Many of the tarpon line class world records come out the Homosassa area and that’s where this boat spends a lot of it’s time fishing.  The owner of the boat previously had a Lake and Bay Boca Grande which he fully decked out and wanted to do the same with this skiff.  He said once you fish with SeaDek you never go back, the comfort and traction provided makes fishing a much more enjoyable on those long days on the water.  We decided to go with cool gray over storm gray for the colors in a 6mm thickness.  The color combination provides a nice subtle look.  The before and after pictures really show the difference.  If you are interested in decking out your boat or skiff you can contact Castaway Customs at tyler@castawaycustoms.com.

Custom SeaDek on Ranger Banshee Extreme

I got a call the other day from Travis Tucker who runs a Ranger Banshee Extreme and fishes many redfish tournaments.  Travis had seen my custom SeaDek work on another boat and knew that is what he wanted on his boat.  We organized a time a place and place to meet up so I could scan the boat to make sure everything fit perfectly.  We completely covered the boat from the cockpit and decks to the poling platform and Yeti Cooler.  He will now have an easier time sneaking up on those spooky redfish in tournaments and also be nice and comfortable after a long day on the water.  Here are a few before and after shots, that really emphasize the difference that custom SeaDek can make to your skiff.  If you are interested in decking out your boat, big or small, give me shout at 321-537-2039 or shoot me an email at tyler@castawaycustoms.com.

New Shipment of Yeti Tundra Coolers and Brand New 50 QT

Just received a new shipment of Yeti Coolers and will have more on the way shortly.  We have a couple of the new 50 QT Yeti Tundra Series in stock.  The 50 QT has a couple of cool new features.  First of all the size of the cooler is very nice because it is more of a cube shape.  The dimensions measure approximately 24″ x 17″ x 18″.  It is roughly 3″ taller than the 35 QT and 45 QT models.  The added height makes it great to double as a casting platform on the bow of your skiff.  Another new feature is a place for a divider in the cooler which will allow you to separate things.  While the divider isn’t water tight, it is still a nice feature and like all Yeti Tundra coolers it comes with a nice tray to keep things out of the ice.  All coolers come with a free 5mm single color SeaDek cooler pad.  We carry all size Yeti Coolers so if you need anything feel free to gives me a call at 321-537-2039 or contact me at tyler@castawaycustoms.com

Inshore Power Boat Hunting Edition

I got a call from one of the owners of Inshore Power Boats, simply referred to as IPB.  He was going to build a duck hunting boat and wanted to use our camo SeaDek to deck out the boat.  The nice thing about an IPB is the many different options and ways to build it out.  You basically have a blank canvas and if you have an idea, they can make it happen.  This boat is just an example of what they can do.  They added KC headlamps, gun box, poling platform, mud motor, custom grab bar, and of course the army camo SeaDek with custom duck logos to top it off.  Check out a few of the pics of the SeaDek before the boat was fully rigged out and a picture of the boat rigged out, dog not included.  If you are interested in having Castaway Customs deck out your hunting boat, IPB, or any boat for that matter, give us a call at 321-537-2039 or shoot me an email at tyler@castawaycustoms.com.
